The artist has donated the entirety of his £25k award winnings to the MVT, which works to save the Britain's independent live music spots.

The star was given the award on October 16 as his third album the album was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

The money helped venues that were facing imminent closure due to issues arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues received financial assistance in improving facilities and gear that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to good deeds.

Back when the band won the trophy in the mid-90s for their album their work, vocalist Cocker announced that the group would contribute their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she shared her bounty across a few good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," she shared with the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the community center that supported their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And winners that year the group donated their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success impacted the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had saved several small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in Southampton and the other in the city were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
